First Aid At Work (3 days)

About This Course

All of our courses are fully accredited by FAIB, an organisation established to ensure the highest standards in first aid training, giving you the confidence in the quality and reliability of our programmes. This course is open to participants aged 16 and above, and no prior first aid knowledge is required.

First Aid at Work (FAW) provides a full, comprehensive first aid qualification. You’ll gain practical skills to respond safely to a wide range of emergencies, from minor injuries to serious incidents, and learn your responsibilities as a first aider. FAW is ideal for higher-risk workplaces or larger organisations, while the shorter Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) may be sufficient for lower-risk settings.

How many first aiders do you need?

The number of first aiders your workplace needs depends on several factors, including the number of employees, the hazards in your operations, the layout and size of your site, and work patterns such as shifts. As a general guide:

  • Higher-risk workplaces: 1 FAW-qualified first aider for every 50 employees.
  • Lower-risk workplaces: 1 first aider for the first 25 employees, plus 1 extra for every 100 employees thereafter.

For larger sites, multi-floor workplaces, shift patterns, or mixed-use areas, it is important you make sure you have enough trained first aiders to cover the whole site at all times, including any areas open to the public.

What You’ll Learn

  • The role and responsibilities of a First Aider, including consent, record-keeping, preventing cross-infection, and safe use of first aid equipment
