This Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) course is ideal for anyone responsible for the care of infants and children. You’ll gain practical, hands-on skills to respond safely and effectively in a range of emergencies, understand your responsibilities as a paediatric first aider, and learn how to keep children and yourself safe.
This course is suitable for parents and anyone caring for children who does not need OFSTED registration.
For early years professionals on the OFSTED register, including Early Years Practitioners, Nannies and Childminders, the updated Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework requires the full Paediatric First Aid course.
What You’ll Learn
- The role and responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider, including consent, record-keeping and preventing cross-infection
- Safe use of first aid equipment suitable for infants and children
- Assessing a scene, communicating with casualties, and prioritising injuries
- The Primary Survey (DR ABC): a systematic check for life-threatening issues
- Giving CPR and using a defibrillator (AED) safely on infants and children
- The Secondary Survey: a simple head-to-toe check for other injuries
- Using the Recovery Position
- Recognising and responding to choking in infants and children
- Spotting and managing seizures
- Treating bleeding and minor injuries
